Tech, bank scrips lead rally, Sensex gains 151pts

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 26 points at 13,734, which turned out to be the low for the day. Sustained buying in tech, bank and auto scrips saw the index zoom to a high of 13,911.

The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 151 points (1.10%) at 13,859.

The BSE Bankex advanced 1.9% (129 points) to 7080. The BSE Teck Index gained 1.6% (56 points) to 3657.

The broad market outlook was bullish - out of 2,705 scrips traded, 1,354 advanced and 1,259 declined today.


Satyam zoomed over 3% (Rs 15) to Rs 492. While Wipro was up 1.7% at Rs 607, Infosys added 1.5% (Rs 34) to Rs 2,253.

HDFC Bank moved up 2.6% (Rs 27) to Rs 1,058. ICICI Bank gained 2.5% (Rs 22) to Rs 894.

Reliance Communications, Bharti, Ranbaxy, ITC, Grasim and ACC also finished with gains today.

ONGC slipped 1.7% (Rs 15) to Rs 873. Hero Honda, HLL and Reliance Energy also declined.
